Chef Intu Kornnawong’s innovative Isaan Thai-California cuisine is as much a destination as it is a delicious culinary experience. Hidden food memories turned into a career path that began when, as a child, Intu’s “dad made the best duck salad called Larb Ped and my mom made the most amazing Bangkok dish, Nam Prik.”.

KUDOS

Chef Intu’s was a semifinalist for James Beard’s Best Chef California 2023, and Jo's Modern Thai, the restaurant run by Kornnawong, has Michelin Bib Gourmand standing.

BIO

Raised in the small town of Udon Thani in the northeastern Thai region of Isaan., Intu moved to San Francisco and studied at The International Culinary Center (formerly the French Culinary Institute), While attending ICC, she worked in some of city’s most renowned Thai kitchens, including Marnee Thai with Chef Chai Siriyan and at Kitchen Story with Chef Kasem (now the owner at Farmhouse Thai.) After graduating from culinary school, she was mentored by Chef Rachel Silcock at the Michelin-starred restaurant, The Range, and then at the Outerlands, working with Chef Yoni Levy, continually refining her knowledge if Californian and French cuisine.

From there, Intu moved to Los Angeles to work at Rustic Canyon, the Michelin-starred dining destination under Chef Jeremy Fox. “Chef Jeremy taught me a lot about local farmers, sustainable and organic produce and, really, what Californian cuisine is. This focus on the bounty around us as chefs inspired me to start learning about my own culinary roots”; which led her to Night+Market and Chef Kris Yenbamroong who shared her passion for Thai food. Together, they opened up Night + market #3.

Chef Intu is now back in the SF Bay, where most recently crafted the menu and launched Jo's Modern Thai. Prior to that, she was the Sous Chef at Kin Khao, San Francisco’s “ground-breaking” Michelin-starred Thai restaurant. The pandemic found Chef Intu doing her own thing with a pop-up at every Sunday, testing her Isaan Thai-California concept with a fun and innovative menu of Kub Klam, Thai-California drinking food to rave reviews, recently “Intu-on … is serving Thai dishes on her own terms: apples lace the papaya salad; sunflower seeds rain down on crispy rice salad; luscious crab meat studs round coconut cakes.”./The SF Chronicle.
